gre's des Vosges (Sandstein)
Sandstone ( french :grés des Vosges, german :Sandstein ) used in all the country and coming from the Vosges mountains.This stone( variety Grés à Voltzia ) is used also on the cathedral of Strasbourg.From geological era they are from Upper Bundsandstein (Lower Trias ).The max thickness from Bundsandstein: 330 m at La Petite Pierre to 400 m at Wissembourg, north Alsace,( grès à Voltzia circa 20 m)Differents variation of red color are possible.
